September 2009, The Month Which is Full of Surprises and New Experiences (English Version of Part I)

In September 13th, 2009, at 9.30 pm I left Indonesia to United States by Korean Air plane. Nervous and scared, that’s what I felt. That wasn’t my first experience went abroad, I’ve ever lived in Japan for 2.5 years with my family in 1987-1989. But that experience was not that I remember, just a piece of memory.
In the plane, I was really impressed with the Korean air hostesses whom were really beautiful, it was like in the Korean drama! Besides sleeping to kill the time, I was pensive; it’s like a dream that I could visit the powerful country. Before I never imagined that I could visit United States and never wanted. If I dreamed, I must want going back to Japan, recalled good times with mama, papa, and my sister.

The Ohio Program is a program which provides a chance for International students to do internship in Agriculture. Besides the students can learn and get experience working in Agriculture and the technology, the students can also learn about the culture, the way to think and language from other country. But the most important thing is improve our quality of English, which are speaking and listening.

After a struggle and waiting long enough, finally I went to US. I was scared of many things, especially foreign culture. Finally arrived in Korea, we transited for 4 hours. Incheon International Airport was really gorgeous and good to see!! So many pretty girls and handsome boys were like in the Korean drama!! I felt wanting to take pictures in every angle. After waiting long enough, I flew again to Japan by Delta Air, US-owned airline. Oh ya, before we got in the airplane, the pretty air hostesses warned us that do not want to receive anything from the strangers and kept watching our things in English with the Korean accent that we didn’t really understand. After they repeated the sentences, finally we understood what they meant.

My heart is so happy because I set foot again in Japan, even just two hoursin the airport. Our plane that we were riding to US was a big plane; we sat in the middle of the plane. I sat beside US citizen, he was friendly and nice, but I forget what his name is. When our plane landed in Detroit, he said, “Welcome to United States” and we separated. He calmed me down when there was a strong turbulence on the half way, and it made me very scared.

Inspection at the Detroit Airport was so strict, many rules and scared me. We must dismantle the knick-knacks that we wore, starting from the watch, belt, shoes and jacket. Even though, Alhamdulillah everything went well and Welcome to United States!!! Then we waited the plane that brought us to Columbus, Ohio.

*Apologize for my imperfect English
